Bea's Bad Day - Tom Percival

Bea is very excited about her birthday but when bad weather conspires against her, the plans she had made to spend it with family and a huge cake all go out the window, leaving her upset and disappointed, so it's up to her family to help her.

I love Tom's Big Bright Feelings books and my collection stands proudly on the book case in my office at school.  They are wonderful books for helping children to understand their feelings and they make the best assembly books, so I was delighted when Bloomsbury sent me a copy of Bea's Bad Day.

Birthdays are something I think the majority of people look forward to, especially children, and there can be high expectations to have a wonderful day; however, it isn't always the case.  Being a winter baby, I am fully aware that snow can change everything in an instant, and whilst it may look lovely, it can cause havoc.  Bea is understandably upset when deep snow means that her family won't be able to help her celebrate and the postie can't deliver her cards and presents.  It's a lot for a child to cope with.  The book is wonderful at showing how it's ok for plans to change and that problems can still result in a brilliant day.

The book will help to generate discussion at home or in school and Tom's letter to readers on the inside of the front cover gives some useful tips that will help children.

Full of important messages in a fun and engaging way, and with bright and captivating illustrations, Bea's Bad Day is a must for homes and schools.
